Music Conservatory, Barcelona

The idea of this project is to respond to two fronts with different requirements. On one hand, the program required a diversity of spaces acoustically well isolated (auditorium, choir and orchestra rooms, music rooms,etc..). Furthermore, the site is located in a very dense neighborhood, in the old town of Barcelona, with a very characteristic urban tissue.

The building is integrated into this urban tissue respecting the rhythm and the heights of the environment, apparently random while having a very clear organizational structure inside.

Music classrooms create the ring around the inner courtyard, while the choir and orchestra rooms generate the external elevations. The internal circulations serve as an acoustic buffer between the
rings and as an encounter zone for students. The auditorium is located in the basement where natural light arrives through the courtyard.
